Boy, 15, led police on 200 km/h chase
A 15 year old boy and two friends led the police on a merry chase, spanning dozens of kilometers and reaching speeds of more than 200 km/h, between Bergen op Zoom and Zevenbergen during the early hours of Thursday morning.
Patrolling officers tried to pull a car over on the A58 near Bergen op Zoom at around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. The driver ignored their stop signal and flashing lights and sped away.
The officers gave chase, reaching speeds well over 200 kilometers per hour during the chase. They called in backup and other officers took station along several exits on the A17 - in the direction the car was heading.
Near Zevenbergen a police vehicle turned onto the highway in front of the speeding car. The driver could not swerve out in time and crashed into the patrol car, coming to a stop against the guard rail.
The officers found three young men in the car, two 15 year olds from Rotterdam and Almkerk and a 21 year old from Leiderdorp, none of the in the driver's seat. The boys told the officers that the driver fled into a pasture, but later retracted this statement. It turns out that the boy from Rotterdam had sneaked away with his mother's car and drove to Brabant. On the way back, during the police chase, the 15 year old from Almkerk was behind the wheel.
