Housing broker: apartment rent rises five percent in a year

Rentals within the private sector in the Netherlands have risen by 5.2 percent when compared to the same quarter last year. Housing brokerage firm Pararius attributes this rise to the stagnation on the supply side of the market. Their website was only able to offer 10,194 new rentals to the third quarter of this year. Pararius Ceo Jasper de Groot says on the company’s website that the demand for rental housing in the medium-segment is too large to be met by current supply capabilities, hampering the proper functioning of the market. The growing middle class is creating an unprecedented demand, especially the double-middle with little children. Pararius predicts that with the continued number of rentals offered falling, and the growing need for an increase of middle-class rentals steadily increasing, private sector rental will become scarce and rental prices are bound to again increase. Rental prices have increased across all of the major cities in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the most expensive rental city in the Netherlands currently, costing around 2,133 euros per month.
