Queen Máxima diagnosed with kidney infection on China visit

Queen Maxima contracted a kidney infection while on the Royal Family's state visit to China. She was diagnosed by a doctor on Monday morning. This means that the Queen will not be attending official parts of the state visit on Monday at least. According to a statement released by the Royal House, Queen Maxima visited the doctor for an examination on Monday morning after getting a fever over the weekend. The doctor diagnosed her with an kidney infection. She has been given medication. Symptoms of kidney infection include high fever and nausea. Kidney infections are caused by bacteria that occur naturally in the human body and is therefore treated with antibiotics. If all goes well, symptoms are often reduced within days. With Maxima falling ill, King Willem-Alexander had to visit a hutong - a traditional neighborhood in Peking - as well as the Dutch pavilion at the Beijing Design Week by himself, according to broadcaster NOS. The Queen's presence at other official parts of the state visit, such as the state banquet, will be decided on at a later stage, depending on how she is feeling. She will not be traveling to the Loess Plateau on Tuesday.
