So far very little is known about the circumstances of and motive for Zengin's murder. The posts on his Facebook page seems to indicate that he was involved in politics. A few days before his murder he invited his Facebook friends to a meeting where Turkish parliamentarian Metin Kulunk of the ruling party AK would speak. He also posted a number of posts about the recent violence in Turkey in which he seems to oppose the Kurdish labor party PKK. The tensions in Turkey has already caused a number of incidents in the Netherlands. Late last month the security around Turkish mosques in Rotterdam, Vlaardingen, Schiedam and Dordrecht was tightened after a number of Turkish buildings' windows were smashed. In July the Federation of Kurds in the Netherlands called on the Kurdish people living in the country not to allow international turmoil t spread to the Netherlands. A number of assassinations of Turkish crime figures have been connected to Amsterdam, such as the murder of Baris Onder in April. Zengin's body was found in the office of a construction company on Derkinderstraat, where he did the administration, acquaintances told the Parool. Between 2009 and 2013 Zengin had a businesses that provided legal advice, translation and interpretation and consultancy at various addresses in West, Nieuw-West and the Westelijk Havengebied. He was also active as a lawyer with an office in Wassenaar from 2010. He primarily handled cases in administrative law, civil law and social security law
