Red Cross volunteers double after call to action for refugees
The Red Cross' call for volunteers on Monday has had a massive effect - 6,500 volunteers have registered with the Red Cross in one day, doubling their volunteers to a total of 13 thousand.
The aid organization is still looking for more volunteers to help out with what they call the "biggest aid operation in years". In practice people who sign up are sometimes unable to help because of work or other commitments, a spokesperson said to NU. "We would like at least 20 thousand volunteers."
On Tuesday Red Cross calls for volunteers will be appearing in newspapers and social media advertisements. The aid organization are looking for people who can work in the Welcome stores and doctors or nurses who can work at the first aid station at the refugee center in Ter Apel, among others.
