Cop draws gun on crowbar-swinging suspect
A police officer had to draw his gun on a 43 year old man in Terneuzen just after midnight on Friday after the man threatened the officer with a crowbar.
The police officer, dressed in civilian clothes, approached the man at the petrol station on Kennedylaan around 0:50 a.m. because he believed the man to be ill or under the influence of alcohol. He identified himself as a cop and the man started cursing at him and threatening him with a crowbar. A bystander also started yelling at the cop.
When the officer tried to arrest the two, they jumped into separate cars and sped off. The officer decided to follow the man with the crowbar and alerted his colleagues.
The suspect stopped his vehicle in a parking lot on Binnevarrtweg and fled further on foot. The police officer lost track of him.
Around 2:00 a.m the police decided to tow the car away and the suspect came running up. He was arrested and his crowbar was seized. According to the police, he refused to cooperate with a breathalyzer.
The man is in custody for further investigation. The police are still looking for the second suspect.
