D66 presents shadow tax plan as budget day ceremony looms

The D66 has come up with a shadow tax plan to the one that the cabinet will be presenting at the Prinsjesdag ceremony later today. According to party leader Alexander Pechtold, their way of investing the 5 billion euros in tax cuts the cabinet has planned is "smarter and cleaner" and will create twice as many jobs as the cabinet plan. The cabinet will announce their plans for 5 billion euros in tax cuts today. The D66 wants to take 1 billion of that money and invest it into further increasing the child care allowance, just like the combination discount for dual-income households and single parents, RTL Nieuws reports. The party also wants an additional tax cut that would result in every working person getting 50 extra euros per year. The D66 also wants to make the budget greener, by keeping the coal tax, taxing polluting heavy goods vehicles and increasing the rates of gas by five percent. "I think that you can invest the 5 billion euros that the government now sees smarter and cleaner. Better for the wallet, but mainly better for employment." Pechtold said. According to the party, if the cabinet adopts their plans, it would create 75 thousand jobs - twice as many as would be created in the cabinet's plans.
