Ziggo won't refund customers after cyber attack

Ziggo customers who had no internet access after the two DDoS attacks against the company last week, will not be getting financial compensation from the internet service provider. A spokesperson for Ziggo confirmed this to the Telegraaf on Wednesday, adding that refunds are unnecessary in this situation. "It was a special situation. We were digitally attacked and received demands through videos. So there was talk of blackmail", the spokesperson said. "We understand that it had a large impact on customers. But financial compensation on the basis of blackmail is not appropriate". He added that Ziggo has received "relatively few claims" from customers who were affected. The Consumers Association agrees with Ziggo's decision. "In this case it seems that Ziggo and customers were duped by blackmail. If there was a technical error, it would have been a different story." Ziggo has taken extra security measures to prevent such attacks affecting customers in the future.
