Hungarian family held in human sex trafficking investigation

A family of four Hungarians suspected of sex trafficking were remanded into custody by the magistrate on Friday. The four suspects were extradited from Belgium to the Netherlands on Tuesday, August 11th. The Public Prosecutor announced this on Tuesday. The investigation into this Hungarian family was launched after information was obtained in another investigation into human trafficking. The trail led the police to Hungary and Belgium. A Joint Investigation Team consisting of members of the Hungarian, Belgian and Dutch police and judicial authorities was established to work on this investigation. In October last year, two Hungarian suspects, a 27 year old man and his 24 year old wife, were arrested in the Netherlands on suspicion of exploitation in prostitution. During the investigation, the team came across the family of Hungarian, consisting of four sisters and one brother and their partners. The brother was found to be a resident of The Hague. Two sisters lived in Gent, Belgium, one in England and the other is believed to live in Germany. The family is originally from Mohacs, Hungary. The Investigators believe that the family trafficked in female victims, who they put to work as prostitutes, mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. Nine suspects arrested in Belgium have already been sentenced to lengthy prison sentences and fines of up to 240 euros per person. The investigation is still ongoing and more arrests may follow.
