Escaped convict Ali B. back in Dutch custody

Escaped convict Ali Benhadi is once again in custody in the Netherlands. He was extradited from Spain to the Netherlands on Friday, the Public Prosecutor announced on Monday. The 23 year old man escaped from a psychiatric hospital in Den Dolder on July 14th. He was serving a 3 year prison sentence for violence and firearm possession in the prison in Zwolle. He had been temporarily transferred to the psychiatric hospital when he escaped. The police searched for Benhadi for about two weeks, during which they performed a raid on his childhood home in Amsterdam. Last week Benhadi was arrested in Algeciras, Spain. According to Dutch newspaper AD, Behnhadi would have been released over four months, but will now likely remain imprisoned until November 2016. After Benhadi's escape his lawyer Peter Plasman said that the picture painted of his client is exaggerated. "He is portrayed as mentally deranged and dangerous. And that while he was in an almost open institution and would have been released in about four months." According to the lawyer, Benhadi escaped for personal reasons.

De op 26/07 in Spanje aangehouden ontsnapte gevangene Ali B. is afgelopen vrijdag overgeleverd aan Nederland. Hij zit nu dus weer vast.
