Bijenkorf, Albert Heijn customers targeted in new online scams

Supermarket chains Albert Heijn and Bijenkorf are warning customers of fake win promotions circulating through emails, Facebook, SMS messages and WhatsApp. For Albert Heijn, these fake promotions offer vouchers worth 100, 250 and 500 euros. Bijenkorf customers most often receive vouchers worth 500 euros, Het Parool reports. The supermarkets' names and logos are used on these messages. The two companies warn that these fake promotions are so called phishing actions designed to collect personal information. They call on customers to be careful and verify the email senders or links. A spokesperson for Albert Heijn told RTL Nieuws that emails sent from Albert Heijn are always sent from an address ending in @nieuwsbrief.ah.nl or @ah.nl. Promotions on Facebook always link directly back to the Albert Heijn Facebook page or the supermarket chain's website. Albert Heijn does not use SMS or WhatsApp for win promotions. Bijenkor also advised customers to check whether the promotion slink back to their Facebook page or website. Bijenkorf does not use SMS messages for promotions.
