Boy forced to run with motorcycle cop was noise complaint suspect
The 13 year old boy who was forced to run alongside a police officer's motorcycle in Almere last week, was involved in an altercation between a group of young people and a man who made a noise complaint to the police.
This is according to statements Dutch newspaper got from a number of the young people involved and a 23 year old community sports worker, who asked to remain anonymous.
The boy in question is named Marvin. Some of the young people from the neighborhood, including Marvin's younger brother, told the newspaper that the incident happened last Sunday. Marvin and a group of young people were in the Passage - a covered shopping area near Stedenwijk. One of the girls' mother told her to come inside and she didn't want to. According to the community sports worker, the girl was forced to go inside under slight duress.
A number of the young people then made a fuss at her front door, which drew the attention of one of the neighbors. Some shouting ensued between the youths and the man and the man called the police.
When the officers arrived, the young people fled. Several boys were stopped and had to give their names. According to the young people the AD talked to, Marvin was afraid of what his mother's reaction would be and gave a false name.
The boys told the newspaper that Marvin was told to run along the motorcycle because the other officers were busy with other boys. "Marvin had to run with the motorcycle, but only for a little bit and not all the way to the police station. At the station he was subsequently detained for a few hours.", the community sports worker, who organizes activities for the young people, clarified after hearing the whole story from them. "Marvin is really not a difficult boy, but he's not from the easiest of families."
