Half of Dutch elderly don't have internet access

Nearly half of the 1.2 million over 75 year olds in the Netherlands do not have an internet connection. This is according to a study done by market researcher Telecompaper, in which they interviewed 600 children and grandchildren on the telecom ownership and behavior of the parents and grandparents, RLT Nieuws reports. The study found that tablets are remarkably popular among the elderly. A quarter of the over 75 year olds use a handheld computer. Smartphones are less popular. Slightly more than half of the respondents' parents and grandparents have a cell phone, though these are mostly older models. Only 13 percent of the elderly people have a smartphone.
