More Hague unrest after Aruban's death in police custody

The mood in Schilderswijk, The Hague was still unsettled on Tuesday night. Young people lit fires in several places. This time the police was ready for the riots. The riot police performed various charges, some to protect firefighters who were extinguishing the fires. A police helicopter circled above the area. A spokesperson for the police told broadcaster NOS that the incidents were less serious than on Monday night, when a demonstration to protest the death of arrested Aruban man Mitch Henriques got completely out of hand. Protesters vandalized property, set fires, built barricades and pelted the police with fireworks and stones. A total of 16 people were arrested. Henriquez was arrested at the Night at the Park music festival in The Hague on Saturday night after allegedly shouting that he had a weapon. He passed away on Sunday night. Several bystanders recorded his arrest. The Rijksrecherche is doing an independent investigation into his death, partly to establish whether the police used excessive force. Minister Ard van der Steur is unsettled by what he saw on videos of the arrest, calling it "very distressful". According to NOS, Amnesty International wants an independent commission to investigate whether discrimination played a roll in Henriquez' arrest.
