Party elders denounce Labour leader Samsom

According to Rick van der Ploeg, former PvdA State Secretary and prominent party member, party leader Diederik Samsom is focusing too much on the coalition with the VVD and too little on the PvdA's own values. Van der Ploeg said this to BNR. About Samsom he said: "He will probably think 'I want to support this government'. But now that the elections are approaching and you are still so low in the plls i think return to your core values." According to Van der Ploeg, if the PvdA does not focus more on the middle class, the environment and a strong economy, the Labour party will be overtaken by other leftist parties. It is important that the party does not only focus on the working class. "You have to be there for the middle class too, a real broad people's party. If you're not, your field will be mowed down by GroenLinks and SP." he said to BNR. "Back to the middle, more green and a bit more strong economy."
