Over 200 chefs protest animal rights ban on fishing, hunting

More than 200 top chefs have sent a letter to the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, asking the parliamentarians not to agree with the plans to put further bans on recreational hunting. The chefs call these plans "bureaucracy" that is at odds with the social concept of "food from nature", Parool reports. According to them, Dutch venison shot by expert hunters is a wonderful product that fits well into a sustainable food chain. The chefs, who include, Robert Kranenborg, Joop Braakhekke, Jonnie Boer and Paul Fagel, fear that they will soon only be able to serve guests wild duck or hare from abroad. On Thursday and Monday the Tweede Kamer will discus a proposal made by Marianne Thieme of the Partij voor de Dieren about banning recreational hunting. She thinks that hunting wild duck, hare, rabbit, pheasant and wood pigeon for pleasure is outdated.
