Coffeeshop in assassination investigation shut down

The police raided a coffee shop in Amsterdam Nieuw-West on Friday night as part of an Amsterdam assassination investigation. Ten suspects were arrested and a number of weapons were seized, including one machine gun. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan has decided to close down the coffee shop Gulum, which is located on Dijkgraafplein. The police received information on Friday that people with guns would be present in the coffee shop. An arrest team secured the building and checked and searched the customers and staff. Officers found firearms, a stabbing weapon and a small amount of drugs on the clients as well as large amounts of money and other evidence of illegal gambling. One customer and an employee also did not have valid residency permits. A total of 7 people were arrested in the coffee shop. Following this raid the police also searched four homes in Amsterdam-West, where they found an automatic weapon, cartridges, loose ammunition, stun guns and drugs. Another three people were arrested. A spokesperson for the Mayor confirmed to Het Parool that the coffee shop has been closed.
