Wild police chase in Friesland: cops shoot out car thieves' tires

A wild police car chase through Friesland led to the arrest of three suspects on Sunday night. The suspects were driving a car that was stolen in Heerenveen the night before. Patrolling police officers tried to pull the car over for a check on Woudsingel in Heerenveen on Sunday night. The driver of the car ignored the stop signal and sped off towards the A32. The police gave chase. On the A32 the trio in the car started throwing wooden beams from the car towards the police car chasing them. They sped through urban areas on via Wolvega, towards Akkrum, where they got back on the A32 towards Heerenvee, all the way continuing to throw wooden beams and large metal bolts from the car towards the police. The trio took the Heerenveen-West exit and drove via Joosterweg and Haskeruitgang through the station tunnel. They stopped the car in the tunnel. Police officers got out of the police car and approached the suspects, at which point the suspects reversed the car into the officers. One of the officers fired at the car's tires, but the suspects still managed to get away. The car eventually flew off the road and crashed into a lamppost on Uhlweg. The three suspects, two men aged 29 and 33 years from Heerenveen and a 20 year old woman from a small town in the Friese Meren municipality, were arrested. They are in custody for further investigation. The police also took a blood sample from the 33 year old driver as they suspect that he may have been under the influence of narcotics.
