Gelderland fire decimates historic building, restaurant

Fire ravaged a historic building in the center of Harderwijk on Tuesday, leaving a restaurant in ruin. No injuries were reported in the blaze that destroyed ‘t Rookerijtje located in the heart of the city center. Fire crews were on the scene before 7 a.m., and were still working on the building's roof in the afternoon. The flames did not spread to the surrounding buildings, but the fire polluted the area with heavy smoke. The popular Dolfinarium tourist attraction did not shut down as a result of the smoke, although special arrangements were required to keep guests comfortable there. “The visitors coming to the Dolfinarium by car were redirected to a different parking lot,” the marine park's spokesman told RTL. “They were then brought to the venue by shuttle buses.”
