Make train conductors wear body cams: politicians

Train conductors should wear body-mounted cameras to record incidents and help prevent violence, MPs from the right-wing PVV and center-right CDA said on Tuesday. They plan to discuss the issue further with Infrastructure Secretary Wilma Mansveld on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Parool. A camera on the jacket of a conductor has a preventive effect, says CDA MP Sander de Rouwe. "Bodycams have a deterrent and de-escalating effect, because people think twice when they see that they are being filmed," he said. The CDA also wants a live feed from the cameras accessible to emergency services dispatchers to quickly bring the situation under control PVV MP Barry Madlener clarifies that the images can be used for the identification of the suspects and as evidence against them. "It is a very affordable and effective method to detect offenders. In America it is successfully in use," he said.
