Rotterdam museum night draws under 5,000 visitors

Only 4,700 people visited the Rotterdam museum night on Saturday, compared to the 15 thousand visitors the cultural night attracted last year, RTV Rijnmond reports. After the commotion around the museum night last year, extra measures were taken. These measures included shortening the time of the event by two hours (from 20:00 to midnight) and arranging fewer activities. These may be some of the factors that resulted in the much smaller attendance. Last year the museum night threatened to collapse, after happening every year since 2002. This was because the Foundation Rotterdam Museum Night and the museums that participate conflicted over finances. The foundation eventually withdrew from the cultural event and the museums organized this year's event themselves. This year the museums wanted to go back to the core of the Museum Night, showing what Rotterdam has to offer in arts and culture. More than 25 museums and galleries participated.
