Weed grow shops in trouble as drug laws tighten up

The police, municipalities and judiciary will soon be tackling grow shops that sell things needed for illegal cannabis growing, the Volkskrant reports. This is the result of an amendment to the Opium Act, which takes effect on March 1st. The Public Prosecution announced yesterday that this amendment makes trading in preparation material illegal. This will focus on grow shops that sell things in preparation or facilitation of illegal cannabis growing, for example providing lights, nutrients and breeding lofts for that purpose. Violators could face a fine of up to 81 thousand euros or a 3 years prison sentence.
