Port drug seizures top 9,000 kilos in 2014

The Rotterdam Hit and Run Cargo Team (HARC) seized around 9 thousand kilograms of hard drugs in 2014. A total of 80 cases were recorded. The bulk of the seized drugs were cocaine - 7,575 kilograms. The biggest catch was one of 3 thousand kilograms of cocaine found between fruit from Costa Rica in November last year. That was the second largest catch ever in the port of Rotterdam. The results of 2014 are comparable to those of 2011 and 2012, according to the Public Prosecutor. In both years about 70 cases were recorded with respectively 6 thousand kilograms (2011) and 3,600 kilograms (2012) of cocaine seized. In 2013 more than 10 thousand kilograms of hard drugs were found, of which about 9,800 kilograms was cocaine. 113 cases were recorded, well above the previous years. The HARC team is a collaboration of Customs, Fiod and Seaport Police and is headed by a special prosecutor.
