Student stabbing suspect still in custody; school discusses safety

The 15 year old boy who was arrested for stabbing a fellow student at Aloysius College in The Hague, is still in custody. The investigating judge will decide today whether he can be released. The 15 year old boy was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed a fellow student (16). The two were fighting. The reason for the fight is still unknown. The boy fled, but the police managed to arrest him shortly after the incident. The victim suffered minor injuries. Should the investigating judge decide that the boy can await his trail at home, he still won't be allowed to return to school. The school first wants to talk to the parents of the two. The victim also remained home on Thursday. "For the time being they cannot see each other." said interim rector Geeske Verbree. "It will first be discussed wit the parents, then appropriate action can be taken." Increasing the feeling of safety is an important issue in the school for the next few weeks. Safety and security was discussed in classes on Thursday morning. "Especially students in the lower classes are very shocked", said Verbree. Students also had access to a social worker all day yesterday. A group of 20 to 30 parents were informed about the incident during an information meeting on Wednesday. Next week the school will talk extensively to teachers on how the feeling of safety can be increased. The possible introduction of detection gates will also be discussed during that meeting.
