Deputy PM unveils €14 million Amsterdam jobs plan

Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Asscher (Social Affairs and Employment announced during a visit to IBM Amsterdam that 14 million euro will be made available for the employment plan Amsterdam "Making work of talent". Minister Asscher will pay 7 million euros of the amount. The rest of the money comes from employers and trade unions and teaching and research institutions in the region.The money is mainly intended to ensure that vocational talent, freelancers and IT specialists are trained so that they are more likely to find work in areas that have a shortage of staff. Among other things, this money will provide for a Starters Grant - 1 thousand young people will have the opportunity to do short internships and gain work experience in companies. 1,400 pupils on MBO or VMBO level will be trained in the workplace by technology companies to improve their professional skills. 200 young people without basic qualifications will get an entry-training. 70 people will receive re-training or additional training to increase their chances in finding work. 180 unemployed people with higher education will be retrained to a IT profession Minister Asscher made a total of 600 million euros available for the sector plans. Employers and employees will contribute at least the same amount. Thus far more than 100 industries have applied for this.
