Cocaine bundles washes ashore in Egmond; more expected

A strange form of Christmas snow appeared on the beach of Egmond aan Zee this weekend. Dozens of packets cocaine washed ashore. customs found a black sports bag with cocaine on the beach during a surveillance along the coast early on Saturday morning. The drugs were packed in 25 packets. A search along the tide line on the beach revealed another sports bag and six loose packets of cocaine. Customs, FIOD, the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Military Police), Coast Guard and the police were involved in the search. The sport bags were presumably put overboard from a ship and washed up on shore. The total of 64 packets of cocaine have a wholesale value of over 2 million euro. The Public Prosecutor urges anyone who finds another packet on the beach to immediately report it to the police.
