Timmermans called best politician of the year

Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans is considered the “Best Politician”, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond.

De Hond’s poll places Timmermans, who now serves as Euro Commissioner, way ahead of PVV leader Geert Wilders and even Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Between 25 and 45 percent of voters from all parties would vote for him; with the exception of PVV voters. Most PVV-ers would vote for Wilders. The poll was held via the internet among 2,500 people, from a random test of 40,000 who signed up for a panel. The poll days are Fridays and Saturdays. The announcement comes just days after the parliamentary press named Timmermans politician of the year. The press praised him for his knowledge, but mostly for the way he handled the MH17 plane crash. The Minister had given a well-received speech in front of the UN Security Council.
