KLM chief could shed management jobs: report

The directors of KLM want to reduce the number of management levels in the company. Some departments have nine hierarchical layers, two of which will be removed. CEO Pieter Elbers made this announcement on Friday in an interview with the Financieele Dagblad (FD). This step is one of the measures with which KLM plans to save 700 million euro. Elbers indicated earlier that he wants the airline's employees to realize a production increase of 4 percent. He wants to cut two layers in departments that consist of nine hierarchical layers. It is not clear how many jobs will be lost. According to Elbers, the company needs "fresh blood" coming in to get innovation off the ground. Bargaining over collective agreements between KLM and unions start next week.
