Community service for Rotterdam exam fraudsters

Seven students who were found in possession of stolen exams from the Rotterdam school IBN Ghaldounwere, were sentenced to community service. In the latest round of hearings, the court found seven guilty of theft and pilferage, while five other students were acquitted. Dozens of others have appeared before a court since the crime was discovered. In May last year, 27 national final exams were stolen from the vault of Ibn Ghaldoun school by pupils, which were then sold to students across the country. Upon discovery of the crime, many exams were declared invalid, with hundreds of students having to sit for retake exams. One of the convicted youths has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service, as he not only had the stolen exams in his possession, but had also threatened another student in obtaining the papers. Students who had used the exams themselves, and offered the stolen material to other students, received 40 hours of community service, while the students who only used the exam copies received half as much time. The students who were allegedly behind the theft were sentenced to one month imprisonment, and 170 hours of community service in February.
