Transvestite wanted for robbery strangled by date

A 61-year-old Groningen man has been charged with attempted manslaughter after trying to strangle his 31-year-old transvestite on-again-off-again boyfriend. The younger man was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police say the young man was also wanted in connection with the violent October robbery of a 53-year-old Groningen man, according to RTV Noord. Police arrested the 61-year-old in his own Groningen flat after he called emergency services to report a robbery. He claimed he had been attacked by an intruder and defended himself by attempting to choke the alleged robber. Neighbors previously questioned the scenario of a robbery because the man lives on the 6th floor at the end of a long corridor. According to neighbors, there has often been fights in the flat. The police now assumes that the incident is a personal quarrel that got out of hand. Back in October, the younger man and an accomplice struck their victim on the head, breaking one of his fingers in the process, during a home invasion on Platinalaan. The victim then suffered from a traumatic brain injury, possibly a stroke. Meanwhile, the robbers made off with cash and a watch. The transvestite is said to be very well-known in Groningen, and also is believed to be heavily addicted to drugs. According to a police spokesperson, the 61-year-old is extremely emotional about what happened. With additional reporting by Janene Van Jaarsveldt
