Bee-killing products dropped from garden superstore Intratuin

Garden store Intratuin is dropping all pesticides that cause death in bees.

This is happening after a Greenpeace investigation last April, which showed that a lot of banned and controversial pesticides are applied to ornamental plants. Greenpeace found more than 500 pesticide residues, including 57 illegal substances, on the plants in all chains of garden centers.

Intratuin promised to remove all nine pesticides that are linked to bee deaths from plants, including the so called neonicotinoids. Next year all chemical pesticides that potentially pose a risk to bees will disappear from the stores.

The Greenpeace investigation also included the supply of two other large chains of garden centers, Welkoop and Groenrijk. From their reaction it is evident that they are going to combat the use of illegal substances, but will not ban neonicotinoiden for the time being.
