Former ALS Netherlands director an embezzlement suspect

The former director of the ALS Netherlands, Eric Nolet, transferred 92 thousand euro of the foundation's money into a private account at the beginning of this year. ALS Netherlands strives to spend as little as possible. They only have 4,5 paid staff. Almost everything else is done by volunteers. Which is why former director Eric Nolet's attempted theft hurt so much. "At the end of January our accountant discovered that the then director paid 92 thousand euro into his own account. We made him inactive within three days." says Arnout Bloys van Treslong of the Supervisory Board. The money was later paid back and Gorrit-Jan Blonk was appointed as the new director. The Supervisory Board regrets the theft and is furious. "We have learned that we still have to hold the reins tightly in hand. This was a tough learning experience." says Chairperson Marguerite Soeteman-Reijnen. Eric Nolet was the director of the ALS Netherlands Foundation from June 2011 until early this year. It is unclear why he tried to steal from the foundation. The foundation is investigating whether legal action can be taken against Nolet
