One killed in The Sand A'dam club shooting; club shut

Amsterdam club The Sand has to be closed indefinitely after a man was shot and killed on the premises on Friday night. These orders come from Amsterdam's Mayor Eberhard van der Laan on Saturday. Police say that there were around 2000 people inside the club at the time of the incident, and are looking for witnesses to come forward, Het Parool reports. Police are not yet sure who the victim is, nor who fired the bullet. No motive has been established. The only concrete detail gathered so far is that the shooter was a man. Police may have an idea who the victim is, but "that isn't 100 percent sure yet." The Sand has been the site of previous incidents of this nature. In November of last year, there was also a shooting at the busy club. In July the same year, the club was robbed. The former owner of The Sand was shot and killed in Amsterdam earlier this year. This latest incident was the last straw for the Mayor. A spokesperson for the municipality announces in a statement that this "serious disruption of the public order" in the Westelijk Havengebied area of Amsterdam is simply the latest in a string of violent incidents at the club. At the moment the shooting happened on Saturday just past 4 in the morning, the party Afro Dance XXL was still in full swing, and there were many people present, but none of the bystanders were injured. Police still can't establish a motive, nor can they say who the victim or shooter are. The police will review camera footage, and want to speak to more witnesses. Videos or pictures taken by visitors are also useful. The club's spokesperson states that there was more security at the club than stipulated by protocol. "With 17 security guards present, there were even five more security guards than the protocol calls for." The club says it will do whatever it can to help the police in their investigation. On its Facebook, page, the club states that this weekend's line-up of events has been cancelled, and says that its "thoughts go out to the surviving relatives of the victim."
