Netherlands commits €15m to emergency Ebola fight

Minister Lilianne Ploumen (Development Cooperation) announced to the Second Chamber today that the Cabinet has made 15 million euro available to combat the Ebola epidemic. The United Nations will receive 10 million of the money, Red Cross three million and Doctors without Borders one million, Het Parool reports. She is also consulting with her colleagues from the Department of Defense and Health on other ways to offer help, such as the provision of transport, medical workers and supply. The epidemic in West Africa has taken more than 2,600 lives. Ploumen will consider what more can and must be done to ensure the best care for the people there. According to the Minister, attempts are being internationally reinforced to bring the Ebola outbreak under control. It is too large to be left to the countries themselves. This is in support of American President Barack Obama, who stated that the epidemic is out of control. He indicated that the United States will build treatment- and training centers in West Africa.
