Mauritshuis reopening draws 100k visitors

Since opening seven weeks ago, the new Mauritshuis museum has already had 100,000 visitors, the museum announces, the Algemeen Dagblad reports. The 100,000th visitor was received on Monday. "The re-opening has received national and international attention, and people are curious to see the result", says museum director Victor Moussault. The museum expected that the first year of the re-opening would see more people than in a normal year, when they expect at least 250,000 visitors. "But that we have already received 100,000 visitors in such a short amount of time exceeds our expectations", Moussault says. The museum was visited by around 5000 people per week before the building was closed for renovation in 2011. Since the 27th of June, when King Willem-Alexander officially opened the museum, the average weekly visitors number more in the 16,000. Opening times have been expanded since the re-opening, and the museum is also open on Mondays until the 1st of November.
