Kris Kremers' remains ID'd in Panama

DNA testing of were positively identified as belonging to 21-year-old Kris Kremers, one of in the Central American country since April 1. Remains belonging to her friend, Lisanne Froon, 22, this week.

Kremers’ family confirmed the news Dutch broadcaster NOS, saying in a statement, “The family of Kris Kremers has the very difficult and extremely sad task of confirm today that Kris died during her trip to Panama.”

“It’s a very dark chapter which is overshadowed by many questions about Kris and Lisanne’s fate.”

The family plans to stay in Panama until a cause of death has been determined. They have asked for to help make this possible.

“The shock surrounding the discovery is large, and now the families want to process the news in peace, and [they] ask everyone to take this into account,” they said.

The two students had been , in western Panama near the Costa Rican border. They are believed to have left on April 1 for a hike in the wilderness there. There remains and two months later about eight hours walking distance away from the town.
