Oranje viewership increases with win

Yesterday's match against Australia was viewed by almost 7.9 million people. More people watched Oranje beat the Aussies than the last match against Spain, although arguably, the latter match had more attached to it. About 600,000 more people watched yesterday's win. On Dutch television, viewership was very high for the Dutch game. The second most-watched match was Spain versus Chile, in which five million viewers watched how the reigning champions were painfully defeated 2-0. Studio Brasil, the NOS program, took third place, with 4.4 million viewers. According to statistics from Twitter's Shona O'Tool of Communications, "the match between The Netherlands and Australia was not only watched by fans on TV but also on Twitter", as regular updates were tweeted out before, during and after the match. The match was tweeted about 3,254,052 times. These statistics relate to an hour before the match and 30 minutes after the match. The top tweet during this time frame was "Arjen Robben (NED) and Tim Cahill (AUS) score back to back goals", which was tweeted almost 130,000 times. Even Rihanna got into the match, as she tweeted "van persie doe!", which was retweeted more than 8500 times during the game.
