"Cancer" scratched into patient's car

Two Limburgers received an outpouring of support following a television report detailing the vandalism of their car. Wim and Christien were the subject of a piece that aired on Hart van Nederland showing the word "kanker" scratched into the hood of their car in large capital letters. The couple believes the Dutch word for "cancer" was etched into the vehicle because Wim is battling lymphoma for the second time in his life. Meanwhile, their insurance company would not pay out a claim for the repair, and the couple said they cannot afford to pay for the work from their own pocket. It is not known why the insurance company refused. After the story was broadcast, many supporters took to the television show's website to write a message of support to the couple. Auto repair shop Rietjens in Stramproy, Limburg took care of the damage as a gesture of goodwill. It is not known who scratched the car, or why.
