Banana thrown at Nigel de Jong

Footballer Nigel de Jong was pelted with a banana after the match between AC Milan and Atlanta Bergamo, which Milan lost 2-1. The midfielder reacted to the incident on Twitter. "Keep smiling, there are worst [sic] things in life than racial abuse. People are just 2 ignorant these days", 29-year old De Jong Tweeted. He was one amongst several dark players on the AC Milan team, who fans targeted with bananas. Daniel Alves, goalkeeper for FC Barcelona, also had a banana thrown in his direction. He reacted stoically to the racism from a Villarreal fan, and ate the banana.
