Protest against vigilante jewelry storeowners shut down

Police in Deurne stepped in and stopped a protest against the jewelry store-owner's wife who on Friday shot and killed two men robbing her husband.

Some 40 protesters had gathered at the town's square Saturday evening, chanting "Murderer" and some carrying placards that said "Marina is not a hero!" They disagreed with the instant status Marina Sanders achieved after she took the law in her hands and killed the two men who were holding up her husband Willy's jewelry store Goldies. The woman was at home when she saw the robbery through the security cameras; she drove to the store and shot the man. Her husband was hit in the hand during the incident. One of the dead robbers has been identified as a 20-year old man of Moroccan descent who hailed from Eindhoven. The identity of the other one is not known yet. The Prosecutor's Office in Eindhoven has meanwhile said that it considers the killings self-defense. Prosecutor Bart Nieuwenhuizen said at a press conference Saturday that security camera footage shows that Willy Sanders let the robbers into his store, after which a fight ensued and shots were fired. He said it is not clear as yet who shot whom and how many shots had been fired exactly. The Sanders are considered suspects, but they are not treated as such. The protesters are of the opinion that authorities are too quick to draw their conclusions, which is why they took to the street to demonstrate against Marina Sanders. As they did not request a license to hold their protest, police quickly shot them down. https://twitter.com/peter_brouwer/status/450169555655331840
