NL leader in child porn

According to a spokesperson for the The Dutch Child Porn Hotline, the Netherlands is the worst offender for child porn in all of Europe. The Hotline claims that last year, a record amount of reports of child porn on the internet came in. At 23,278, this is a rise of almost 20 percent. Fast internet connection makes it easier to distribute the material. Individuals can report to the Hotline if they see suspicious photos and videos online. In 60 percent of cases, the material has been branded punishable by law. Most often, the images depict girls, at 77 percent. And 64 percent of the children haven't even reached puberty yet. The Hotline reports all incidents to the police. After 24 hours, the owner of the computer on which the material is filed is signaled and ordered to remove the material from the internet. It rarely leads to prosecution, the spokesperson says. Many time, it concerns images that have been circulating for years.
