Dutch Bank prepped for Euro breakup in 2012

The euro as a currency was at its breaking point in 2012. "There were moments when the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) anticipated several scenarios and prepared for the worst," said DNB president Klaas Knot in the TV program College Tour, Friday evening.

Knot assured his audience of students a return to the Dutch guilder is not desirable. The president even took it a step further by stating that, hypothetically speaking, if that were to happen, he would resign. "I would really have a credibility issue if I would have to oversee an operation that I think is unfavorable for the Netherlands." Klaas Knot replaced Nout Wellink when he accepted his current position as president of DNB in 2011.
