Schengen borders tightened during Nuclear Summit

One of the measures to ensure a safe and undisturbed Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) in the World Forum Convention Center in The Hague on March 24 and 25, 2014, is to reintroduce limited border patrols within the Schengen borders.

Based on articles 23, section one, and article 24 of the Schengen border code, the Royal Military Police (RMP) and harbor police will carry out flexible inspections, both informed and random. Informed inspections will be based on information from the RMP, the police, foreign authorities, and international organizations. Backed by above mentioned articles, the RMP and the harbor police may inspect travelers entering or exiting the Netherlands, from March 14 up to 27 on all entry and exit points, such as the gates for incoming intra-Schengen flights. Travelers may be asked to provide their travel documents and permits, and are obligated to comply in accordance with European regulations. By keeping the inspections flexible and mostly targeted, an attempt is made to minimize inconvenience to travelers.
