Slave trade exhibit draws big in Amsterdam

The slave trade exhibition, "The Dark Chapter," in The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam has already drawn over 100,000 visitors, announced the museum Monday. The exhibit is about one of the largest, but least known maritime disasters from the Dutch history. The Dutch slave ship, Leusden, transported some 7,000 slaves between 1719 to 1738 over the course of ten voyages, when it finally sank on the Maroni (Marowijne) river in Surinam in 1738. 702 people lost their lives. The ship was never found. The Dark Chapter opened on June 27th and will be on view until August 31st.
