Book giveaway at KIT draws many
Large crowds flocked to the Royal Tropics Institute KIT on Thursday and Friday, where thousands of books were being given away for free.

Subsidy cuts are forcing the institute to close the library that used to feature a priceless collection of reading material. KIT was able to find public housing for some 98 percent of the books –seven kilometers went to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria in Egypt-, but there were still thousands that people could pick up gratis on Thursday and Friday.
It was still pretty packed in the small storage room on Friday, but according to a staff member “it was even busies on Friday. The line of people went around the building all the way to the entrance (about 200 meters out).”
The subsidy cuts that at first created fears that KIT would close entirely, are still forcing the institute to reorganize; about 90 people will lose their jobs.
