Whistle Blown on Lying Meatpacker

Meat processor VION did indeed commit fraud with meat, confirmed two new whistle blowers to Omroep Brabant. A section of VION falsely sold 11,000 kg of pork meat as organic ham last year Summer. The meat was sold in supermarkets. The company apologized and claimed to have taken measures to prevent it from happening again. The whistle blowers support their allegations with documents, in the possession of Omroep Brabant. The labeling of the load was then switched to organic, according to the whistle blowers. 24,000 kg of meat was wrongly labeled, due to human error, explained a spokesperson for the company. 11,000 kg was sold as more expensive organic meat, scamming an estimated 250,000 consumers. Encebe delivers meats to Jumbo, Albert Heijn, Plus, and C1000, among others. Albert Heijn was overwhelmed by the news about the fraud and held an urgent meeting about the affaire. Alders pointed out to VION the company had eight hours to inform suppliers, but the company responded it had already done so. The manager in question was suspended two months earlier. When Omroep Brabant inquired whether that had to do with the fraud, the company denied that. Hans Alders had started an investigation into accusations, made in the TV-program Nova Zembla. Alders had never been able to verify the allegations of meat fraud, because he could not find evidence.
