Allow Dutch Intelligence Services To Monitor Internet Traffic

A government committee tasked with investigating electronic surveillance recommended that Dutch intelligence agencies should be allowed to monitor internet and telephone traffic. The committee says Dutch secret services should be allowed to monitor cable-related information. The current law does not allow this, RTL NL reports quoting Yahoo News. Currently, the law allows Dutch secret services to only monitor communication made via satellite or short wave. The security services must be able to able to investigate cable-based internet traffic. The committee, however, also recommends that the proposed extension of the law shouldn’t be alike the practices of the U.S. Secret Service NSA. But “our intelligence and security work should be within a legal framework," Dessens said.
