Author Gerrit Krol deceased
Author Gerrit Krol passed away at the age of 79. In the last few decades, he wrote more than fifty novels, short stories, poetry, and essays. He received several prices for his work, including the Constantijn Huygens Prize and the PC Hooftprijs.Krol was born in Groningen and while studying mathematics, he began working as a computer programmer. He stayed employed in the field of technology, for instance as a system designer at the Dutch Petroleum Company.

He regularly incorporated mathematical formulas and figures in his work. In 1986, Krol was awarded the Constantijn Huygens Prize, and in 2001 the PC Hooftprijs. In 2005, the Free University of Amsterdam granted him an honorary degree, partly because of the combination of "literary quality with theoretical reflection and understanding of the sciences." 'Het gemillimeterde hoofd', 'Maurits en de feiten,' and 'De vitalist,' are among Krol's most well-known titles. Critics praised his work for the light-hearted and humorous approach to serious topics. In recent years, Krol suffered from Parkinson's disease. He reported this in 'Duivelskermis' in 2007. It was his last novel.
