Doctors 'Do' Too Much
Doctors treating patients who are in the last stage of their life often ‘do’ too much. Both doctors and patients have to deal with the question ‘Should we do everything that’s possible?’ very often in cases of premature births and seriously ill patients. Research agency ZonMw concluded this in a report that they will offer to the Minister and Secretary of Public Health on Wednesday.According to ZonMw's research on how long and unnecessary treatments could be prevented, communication between doctor and patient is more complicated than thought as both have to deal with feelings of frustration and fear.
RTL.nl reports that the research agency is calling for more research. “What happens in the consulting room is often like a black box,” according to the organization. The doctors' group KNMG announced that they will create their own steering committee that aims to provide special guidance to doctors and patients who are in their first or last life stages.
