ING Customers Panic Over Technical Failure

Customers were unable to pay for their groceries, had thousands of euros in their bank accounts more or less than the day before and could not log into Internet banking because of extreme technical failures at the ING bank on Wednesday. NOS.nl reported that according to a representative of the bank, Harold Reusken, the failure was caused by payment details not being processed in their systems the previous night. “The balances are right but yesterday's payments were not added or subtracted.” He guaranteed, however, that a hack was not the cause of the interruptions. The bank apologized and said that specialists were working on a solution. The Dutch consumers’ union, Consumentenbond, called on the bank to provide more information. To minimize panic ING should inform their customers about the scale of the problems and when they will be resolved. According to Parool.nl it remains unknown how many people are affected by ING’s technical failure. Also, the Rabobank is experiencing a technical failure in Internet banking. A spokesperson said that the two interruptions are not related.
